A private Facebook page where thousands of men post photos of Adelaide women rating and humiliating them is facing calls to be shut down.

9News can exclusively reveal more than 11,000 people have joined the page to spread misogynistic and sexually explicit content since October.

Photos of women are taken from dating sites and posted to the page without permission.

The photos spark comments from men identifying the women and where they live as well as rating them on their appearance and weight.

Some posts are sexually degrading and too explicit to share while others appear to show teenage girls, although it is unclear if they are underage.

“It’s absolutely disgusting, disrespect toward women has no place anywhere and it certainly has no place online,” Women’s Minister Katrine Hildyard said.

SA Best member Connie Bonaros said the page should be shut down.

“The fact that Facebook has allowed a group like this to be established on this platform is abhorrent,” she said.

“The page that we are looking at now is absolutely intended to humiliate, to shame, to undermine, to degrade.”

There are fears the online abuse could lead to physical abuse in what is a systemic problem about respect for women, barrister Claire O’Connor said.

9News has reported the group to Facebook owner Meta, which has launched an investigation and confirmed the content violated community standards.

Meta said the page has been removed but it still remains full of women’s photos and offensive comments. 9News asked Meta why the page had not been taken done but has yet to receive an answer.

Police said anyone who believes their image has been used should contact the Cybercrime Online Reporting Network.
