TV reporter Nathan Templeton dies aged 44

Well-known television sport and news reporter Nathan Templeton has died, leaving friends and colleagues heartbroken.
The Seven Network this morning confirmed the 44-year-old, who was the Melbourne correspondent for the Sunrise program, had passed away.

Seven Melbourne managing director and network head of sport Lewis Martin said the tragic news had left everyone at the company profoundly saddened.

“Nathan was a respected journalist whose passion for storytelling was evident in all his years reporting for Sunrise, 7NEWS and multiple Olympic Games,” he said, in a statement.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, especially his two young sons, during this difficult time.”

Other former colleagues began paying tribute to the journalist this morning.

Ex-Seven presenter Ryan Phelan said the news was heartbreaking.

“He was an incredibly talented and hardworking colleague but I will treasure our conversations post Channel 7,” he said, on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Sending love to his young family.”

3AW sport presenter Matt Granland described Templeton as a “kind and gentle soul taken way too soon”.

Former sports journalist Damien Ratcliffe said Templeton was “a pleasure to work alongside”. 

Templeton worked on Olympics, AFL, Australian Open and other major broadcasts for Seven.

His career highlights include poolside commentary during the coverage of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

He was the ground announcer for the Geelong Football Club and hosted a range of other events across various industries, according to a profile by public speakers agency Saxton.
