Boksoon Kwon, a beloved mother and dedicated learner, is fondly remembered for her warmth and wisdom. Residing with her son while pursuing new skills at TAFE, Kwon’s presence touched many lives.

While attending English and arts classes at Cairns TAFE, she formed a close friendship with fellow student Jiraporn Janluang. “She was a very wise woman, very clever,” Janluang recalled. “She never spoke ill of anyone, and I never saw her with a grumpy face. She was always very warm. That’s what I remember; she was a loveable person.”

Tragically, the 71-year-old’s life was cut short when she was struck and killed by a police Landcruiser in Cairns North yesterday morning. Her loss is deeply felt by those who knew her.

“She never say about anybody bad, never ever see her face grumpy, she always very warm. That’s what I can tell, she’s a loveable person.”

The 71-year-old was hit and killed by a police Landcruiser in Cairns North yesterday morning.

She was crossing the road on a green signal. At the same time officers drove through an intersection to arrest a wanted person.

“I text her phone number and said I heard some news and an accident and someone named Boksoon, then her son replied and said it was her,” Janluang said.

“And I felt like, ‘oh God, this, this … it can’t be’.

“She shouldn’t end up like this.”

Kwon’s son was too distressed to speak on camera today as the police investigation into the officers’ actions continues.
