The trial of four individuals charged with the killing of 15-year-old Cassius Turvey officially began in the Western Australian Supreme Court on Monday.
The accused – Brodie Lee Palmer (29), Mitchell Colin Forth (26), Jack Steven James Brearley (23), and Aleesha Louise Gilmore (23) – have all entered not guilty pleas.
The Noongar Yamatji boy was allegedly attacked on October 13, 2022, while walking home from school in the Perth suburb of Middle Swan.
The assault, in which he was struck with a metal pole, left him with severe head injuries.

Despite initial medical attention, Cassius tragically passed away from his injuries 10 days later.

The trial, expected to last around 11 weeks, is being overseen by Chief Justice Peter Quinlan.
A series of witnesses are expected to testify as the legal proceedings unfold.
Cassius’s death sparked widespread outcry and solidarity, with vigils and protests held across Australia and around the world.
His family, along with supporters from his community, continue to seek justice for the young boy who was known for his warmth, kindness, and leadership.

As the trial continues, the hope for justice and accountability remains strong in the community, with many committed to preserving the memory of Cassius Turvey.
