A truck and a train believed to be carrying about 100 people have collided at a Perth level crossing, sending three people to hospital, hitting nearby vehicles with flying debris and causing commuter chaos.
Aerial footage from the scene in Guildford showed the extent of the damage following the crash about 4pm (6pm AEST).

In a startling scene, the front window of a train was shattered, while a truck and its trailer lay overturned nearby. The bobcat that had been transported by the truck was found scattered meters away along the railway tracks.

Debris from the incident struck several cars, with one tire embedding itself into a car’s windshield.

Medical teams transported two women and a teenager to different hospitals. Meanwhile, two toddlers and their mother were examined at the scene and thankfully were unharmed.

Reports from 9News indicate that approximately 100 passengers were aboard the train during the collision. Many of them had to endure a lengthy wait of about an hour to disembark, with some wrapped in blankets for comfort.

Passengers, visibly shaken by the experience, recounted hearing a piercing noise and feeling the train shudder as the incident unfolded.

“He was holding on to me, and I was just like, I was scared, I was shocked,” one passenger said.

Another said he was woken up and bounced off his seat.

A significant police and emergency services presence remained into the night as a crane moved in to begin trying to remove the truck from the tracks.

The Midland line was shut down between Midland and Bassendean, causing delays on the Ellenbrook, Airport and Fremantle lines.

Replacement buses were being organised between Midland and Bassendean but long delays were expected.
