Patrick Muldoon, a cherished figure in Hollywood recognized for his roles in iconic productions such as “Days of Our Lives,” “Melrose Place,” and the sci-fi cult classic “Starship Troopers,” passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 19, at the age of 57. The cause was a heart attack. Muldoon’s journey into acting began during his school years with a guest appearance in the beloved sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” His career took flight after his 1991 graduation when he secured a recurring spot on the teen favorite “Saved by the Bell.”
Muldoon’s career trajectory was marked by notable successes. In 1992, he brought to life the character of Austin Reed on “Days of Our Lives,” a role he played until 1995 and reprised from 2011 to 2012. His talent was further showcased on the glamorous soap “Melrose Place,” where he portrayed the scheming Richard Hart across three seasons. Throughout the late ’90s and into the 2000s, Muldoon became a familiar face in numerous TV movies, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the craft.
The actor’s big-screen breakthrough came with his portrayal of Zander Barcalow in the 1997 film “Starship Troopers,” which has since achieved cult status. Despite his untimely passing, Muldoon’s work continues to make waves, with his latest film, “Dirty Hands,” a crime thriller, scheduled for release later this year.
Beyond acting, Muldoon was a prolific producer, contributing to a diverse array of films including “The Tribes of Palos Verdes,” “Arkansas,” “Marlowe,” “The Card Counter,” “The Dreadful,” and “Riff Raff.” His multifaceted talent left an indelible mark on the industry.
In recent times, Muldoon was involved in the production of “Kockroach,” a project featuring stars such as Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz, which is currently in the filming stage. His legacy in Hollywood is one of passion, creativity, and a remarkable ability to captivate audiences both on and off the screen.
He balanced this work with his music. The star was the lead singer for the band The Sleeping Mass.
Tributes flooded in for the star as fans learned the devastating news of his death. “So sad to hear about Patrick Muldoon. Rest in Peace,” one wrote on Facebook. “Wow, I’m in shock, that’s weird. I just finished watching Starship Troopers…RIP Patrick,” another added.
A third chimed in: “What the heck. My gosh this is so sad rest well you poor sweetheart I hope they have a nice party for you in heaven.” A fourth added: “So sad to hear this news about Patrick Muldoon. He was my favourite Austin on Days of Our Lives.”
A fifth shared: “Very sad to see this too young with such a great actor, I enjoyed watching him on Days of Our Lives.”
