Though Wagner’s current appearance departs from her Hallmark image, her new hairstyle holds meaning beyond aesthetics, significantly influencing both her personal and professional journey. The change was a creative decision aligned with her role in “Lioness,” a project she pitched to Taylor Sheridan on Paramount+. While Sheridan crafted the narrative about female operatives in the CIA, the concept was co-created by Wagner and her husband, David Lemanowicz, a former pro hockey player and U.S. Army major.
For her character Bobby, the leader of the Lioness program’s Quick Reaction Force, Wagner and the creative team decided a short haircut was necessary. “I just got my hair CHOPPED, and I can’t tell you how liberating it was. I love it,” she posted in a June 2022 Instagram video documenting the transformation. The decision to cut her hair wasn’t solely for the role; Wagner embraced it as a statement against societal beauty standards and as an empowering example for her daughters. “I want them to experience new things and know that their true worth isn’t wrapped up in hair or what they drive or how much money they make,” Wagner elaborated.
Wagner hasn’t looked back since. But that doesn’t mean she loves every aspect of having short hair. In a November 2025 TikTok video, she asked fans for tips on how to manage stubborn strands. “I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. The mullet is a serious power move, but I’m not gonna pretend like it doesn’t have its issues. Shorthaired people… Help me out. Show me the way!” she wrote.
