GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In an unusual incident that unfolded in Gainesville, 65-year-old Charles Michael Treadway found himself in handcuffs after an alleged altercation involving a guitar. According to the police, Treadway is accused of seizing a man’s guitar and using it as a weapon during a confrontation.

The Gainesville Police Department detailed that the incident occurred around 10:53 a.m. on April 22. The victim recounted that while playing his guitar, Treadway allegedly grabbed the instrument from him and struck him on the back. The encounter reportedly took place near the southbound exit from I-75 to Newberry Road, where Treadway was panhandling.

In his defense, Treadway claims that the situation began when the victim approached him aggressively, attempting to hit him with the guitar. Treadway stated that he managed to dodge the attack, wrested the guitar from the victim, and then used it to strike him in self-defense. He further mentioned that after the blow, he returned the guitar to the victim, and a scuffle ensued in a nearby grassy area.

Charged with aggravated battery, Treadway revealed to Court Services that he had been residing in the Gainesville area for about a month. He also has a criminal background in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, though the specifics remain undisclosed. Despite the charges, Judge Bo Bayer decided to release Treadway on his own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
