A mother from Maryland will spend the next 50 years in prison for shooting her teenage daughter, an event that left the young girl with a serious neck injury. Talecka C. Brown, 34, received her sentence on Friday following the 2024 incident where she shot her then 13-year-old daughter, as confirmed by court documents.
Local CBS affiliate WUSA reported on the case, highlighting Brown’s conviction and the subsequent lengthy prison term. The shooting occurred on September 23, 2024, during a heated argument at their residence in Seat Pleasant, located in Prince George’s County, just east of Washington, D.C.
In a desperate attempt to divert attention from her actions, Brown initially contacted 911, claiming that her daughter had been shot by a homeless individual. This was later revealed to be a falsehood aimed at misleading the investigation. Furthermore, Brown attempted to persuade her daughter to corroborate this story, instructing her to tell authorities that an intruder had broken into their home and shot her.
This shocking case, which has drawn attention for its mix of familial betrayal and attempted deception, underscores the severity of domestic violence and its consequences. The legal outcome serves as a stark reminder of the justice system’s role in addressing such grave offenses.

Officials said during the investigation, even though the girl was in “screeching pain,” Brown did not express any concern about her daughter’s condition.
Prosecutors said that after her arrest, Brown called her daughter’s father from jail and left a message saying that the case “will go away” if the girl simply didn’t talk to cops or show up for court.
“Attempted first-degree murder — come on, that’s not me,” Brown reportedly said on the voicemail.
She was convicted in October of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and using a firearm as a felon to commit a violent crime, court records show. The jury failed to reach verdicts on charges of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree child abuse, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
