Mia Bieniemy, the spouse of Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, has been hospitalized following an alleged shooting incident involving their son at the family’s residence.
Their son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, aged 27, faces charges including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within a dwelling, as announced by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in a statement released on July 27.
According to reports from the sheriff’s office, a shooting was reported at around 7:30 p.m. on July 26 at a home in Ashburn, Virginia, which Oxygen confirmed as belonging to the Bieniemy family.
Mia sustained injuries in the incident, but as ESPN reported, she is currently in stable condition.
Following his arrest, Elijah Zion Bieniemy was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
His arraignment, which was initially set for July 27 has been continued, online court records show. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31.
Oxygen has reached out to Elijah’s public defender, but did not receive an immediate reply.
“The investigation is ongoing,” the sheriff’s office noted, “and there is not believed to be any threat to the public.”
After the news, the Chiefs spoke out in support of their own.
“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the team told Oxygen in a statement on July 27. “Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Head coach Andy Reid also addressed the news at a press conference at the team’s training camp the same day, confirming that Mia was in stable condition.
“She’s a saint. We all know that, the people that know her,” he said. “One of God’s good blessings, right there—a really special person.”
