A 19-year-old Florida man allegedly beat and stabbed his girlfriend before leaving her on the floor as she collapsed and died, telling police he believed she was “playing around and wanted attention.”
Isaiah Campbell told investigators that after his girlfriend, 21-year-old Nicole Lopez, died, he covered her body with a white sheet because he was “tired of looking at her,” according to an arrest report.
“Flies started to swarm the body,” the report states.
Campbell was arrested Thursday after a domestic violence call at his Columbia County residence. The arrest report says Campbell called authorities at about 4:19 a.m. to say that Lopez was not breathing.
Deputies who arrived at the home found Lopez in the kitchen, police said. Her body was already cold and stiff. Campbell was detained and questioned about the circumstances of her death.
“[Campbell] was visibly upset and crying during the interview,” the arrest report says. “Isaiah explained that he blacked out and didn’t mean to kill her.”
Campbell told police that he and Lopez had been arguing and that Lopez “began to strike him in the chest and arm,” according to the report. “[Campbell] stated he became enraged and began to strike [Lopez] in her face several times.”

He allegedly said he watched Lopez fall to the floor after she complained of feeling “lightheaded.” Campbell then went to another room “to calm down,” the arrest report says.
“Isaiah stated he felt as if she was playing around and wanted attention,” the report says. “He did not check on her when she fell. Isaiah sat in another room for about 30 minutes to calm down.”
Campbell claimed he returned to find Lopez on her back “and not responding,” according to police. He said he did CPR for about an hour before covering her with the sheet and calling 911.
“Isaiah stated he was extremely scared and did not know what to do,” the arrest report says. “Isaiah advised after the panic started to reside, he called 911.”
In addition to facial swelling and widespread bruising, investigators documented multiple puncture wounds on Lopez’s body where she appeared to be stabbed, according to police. Investigators also found blood spatter throughout the house, as well as blood under Campbell’s fingernails and on his shoes.
Campbell claimed he never stabbed Lopez and only struck her in the face. He is charged with murder and is being held at the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond.
