Jenna Bush Hager and Matt Rogers opened Wednesday’s edition of Today With Jenna & Friends with a refreshingly honest discussion about their experiences with underage drinking.
In a lighthearted exchange, Bush Hager acknowledged Rogers’ popularity among the show’s mom audience. The comedian and podcast host then shared his knack for connecting with mothers, saying, “I’ve always been good with moms. During high school visits to friends, I’d be in the kitchen chatting with their moms while my friends did their own thing.”
Rogers confessed that he sometimes used his charm to his advantage, admitting, “I would distract the moms so my friends could make drinks.” This prompted a playful response from Bush Hager, who quipped, “Oh, I love that! I could have probably used you in high school.”
Rogers couldn’t resist a joke at the former First Daughter’s expense, saying, “Back in the day, would I have been chatting with Laura Bush?” The light-hearted banter brought laughter to the segment, showcasing the easy rapport between the two hosts.
“Back in the day I would have been chatting with Laura Bush?” Rogers joked.
“Yes! Y’all would have been chatting in the kitchen and I would have been making the Captain Morgan and Coke,” Bush Hager added.
She then clarified that Captain Morgan and Coke was not her drink of choice at that age since she preferred wine coolers.
“I kept it classy,” she told Rogers.
Rogers then shared that he had his first alcoholic beverage outside of his friend’s house when growing up in Long Island.
“We drank it like little heathens outside in the pitch dark!” he recounted. “That’s Long Island for you.”
Rogers will return to guest host Today for the rest of this week, during which Lili Reinhart and Aziz Ansari will visit.
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
