Skai Jackson, once a beloved figure on the Disney Channel, is revealing personal struggles she’s faced in an unprecedented way.
In a heartfelt conversation with Justin Laboy, the actress opened up about her battle with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) during her pregnancy with her son. This condition, known for causing severe nausea and vomiting, made her experience particularly challenging.
“It was the most harrowing nine months of my life,” Jackson confessed. “I dealt with HG, which meant I was sick relentlessly. I found myself vomiting up to 50 times or more every single day,” she revealed, underscoring the severity of her ordeal.
Jackson went on to describe how this condition turned everyday activities into daunting tasks. Simple acts like eating and drinking became nearly impossible and resulted in further discomfort.
“Every attempt to eat ended in vomiting. Eventually, I was just bringing up body fluids,” she explained. “I had to visit the hospital more than twice a week for IV treatments because dehydration became a constant concern.”
Jackson said the constant nausea and physical pain lasted throughout her pregnancy.
“It was terrible. Like, if I could compare it to a feeling, I would say think of the flu times 10, plus if you wake up on a cruise ship and you’re nauseous every single day. It was horrible. Literally the worst nine months. I don’t recommend.”
Although she is grateful for her son, Kasai, Jackson admitted the experience was so intense that she is unsure if she could go through another pregnancy.
“It’s terrible. I mean, I don’t think I could do that again. They say every time you get pregnant, if you had HG the first time, it gets worse. And I know somebody with three kids and she had it every single time.”
Despite the challenges, Jackson said becoming a mother has completely changed her outlook on life.
“My son is the best little thing ever. Like, he is such a great kid. He’s at the stage now where he’s a little bit testy, so he’ll test me a little bit now, but he is perfect. Like, literally perfect.”
The actress also shared that motherhood has helped her become more patient and intentional about the way she handles situations.
“I feel like motherhood has taught me patience, that sometimes I can just sit back and be quiet. I’ve learned that now. Some things are just not worth it at all. I feel like sometimes you just got to let it go and let it be what it is.”
She continued, “Before, I wasn’t like that. Now I am. And I think it’s because everything that I do, I think about him. You know, my son’s gonna see this, or let me think about him first. That’s my biggest thing.”
