A compelling discussion has erupted online after a Nigerian woman expressed her worry about the attire of teenage girls at a graduation party, drawing attention to the fashion choices of the younger generation.
In a video where she recounted her experiences, the woman questioned why many parents seem to be in such a rush to see their kids mature. She confessed that she was taken aback by how some girls presented themselves at the celebration.
As she observed, numerous teenagers, ranging from ages 13 to 16, arrived in clothing and accessories like artificial eyelashes, nails, frontal wigs, and other revealing attire that she found unsuitable for their young age.
In her own words, she expressed her feelings:
“I’ve just returned from my daughter’s graduation party, and I have to ask—Parents, what is happening? Why are we so eager for our children to leap from childhood to adulthood? What’s the deal with the lashes, nails, and frontal wigs? I saw girls aged between 13 and 16 wearing dresses that practically only covered their nipples.”
The woman argued that parents should not blame society when their children adopt certain lifestyles later in life, insisting that the foundation is laid at home.
She maintained that allowing teenagers to dress in revealing clothes while still under their parents’ care sends the wrong message and contributes to future behavioural issues.
“When your 16-year-old gets to the university and starts dressing half-naked, don’t complain. Who started it? This parenting these days, I don’t understand anymore, honestly,” she added.
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with many agreeing that parents should enforce stricter standards, while others argued that fashion choices should not be used to judge a child’s character.

“I’m very ashamed of today’s parenting. How can girls between the ages of 13 and 16 wear outfits that only cover their n!pples to their graduation? Later, the same parents will complain that their children dress half-naked in university.”
