In response to the devastating wildfires sweeping through South Georgia, the American Red Cross has expanded its relief efforts by opening a second shelter to provide refuge for those affected. This new sanctuary is situated in Brunswick at Selden Park, found at 100 Genoa Martin Drive.
The organization is collaborating closely with emergency management teams and governmental authorities to support communities ravaged by the fires. Their commitment to helping those in need during this crisis is evident as they continue to coordinate efforts for relief and recovery.
In addition to the shelter at Selden Park, the Red Cross is also operating a shelter at Venture Faith Camp, located at 1309 Highway 135 South in Lake Park. These locations are part of a broader strategy to ensure that displaced families and individuals have a safe place to turn during this trying time.

- Chargers for any electronic devices
- Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and other comfort items

American Red Cross provided the following safety tips:
- Know where you’ll go, how you’ll get there and where you’ll stay. Plan well in advance if you’ll need help leaving or use public transportation
- If you have a car, ensure the gas tank is full and park it facing the direction of your evacuation route
- Keep your pets in one room, so you can find them quickly if you need to evacuate
- Monitor local weather and fires near you. Sign up for free emergency alerts from your local government. Stay up to date on evacuation routes and road closures that could impact your plans
- If you feel you’re in danger, leave immediately. You might not get an official notice to evacuate
- Limit exposure to smoke and dust. Keep indoor air clean by closing windows and doors to prevent outside smoke from getting in
- To help keep your indoor air clean, don’t use anything that burns, such as candles, fireplaces and gas stoves
Officials say all Red Cross disaster assistance is made possible through public generosity. Anyone in need can reach out to 1-800-733-2767 or visit the American Red Cross website.
