Decatur Habitat for Humanity Temporarily Halts Operations to Strategize Future Growth

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur Area Habitat for Humanity’s Board of Directors has announced a temporary suspension of operations to focus on strengthening the organization.

In a Friday press release, Board President Philip Romano revealed that all activities, including the ReStore and Christmas Shop, will be halted immediately and remain on hold until the end of 2025.

“This is not a permanent closure. It is a strategic step to reorganize and strengthen our organization so we can continue serving families in need for many years to come,” Romano said. “Our mission remains unchanged: to build and improve affordable housing for families in need, creating strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.”

Romano expressed optimism about resuming operations early next year and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to community service. During this pause, inquiries can be directed to their office at 217-425-6446, where a Board member will respond to calls.

“We deeply appreciate the ongoing support from our volunteers, donors, and partners,” Romano said. “Together, we will continue building homes, communities, and hope.”
