Firefighters Make Progress: 64% Containment Achieved in Brantley County Wildfire Fight

BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. — It’s been almost two weeks since firefighters from across Georgia and beyond converged on Brantley County to battle a massive wildfire that has scorched thousands of acres.

Local authorities have now provided updated figures on their containment efforts.

During a planning session on Saturday, officials revealed that the Highway 82 fire is now 64% contained as of 6 p.m., prompting the lifting of all mandatory evacuation orders.

Authorities informed News 3 that if current conditions remain stable, Highway 32 is set to reopen on Sunday.
