WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — In a poignant effort to combat gun violence, a local youth group is conveying their message through dynamic initiatives, blending action with artistic expression.

The Four E Youth Organization is spearheading an event titled “Put the Guns Down Rally,” which features an art contest aimed at involving children in the cause and amplifying the call for peace.

Roxanne Cobb, one of the event’s organizers, emphasizes the importance of reaching out to young people by harnessing education, creativity, and community involvement as tools for change.

The rally is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will take place at School Street Park in Washington, Georgia.

Attendees can look forward to an array of activities including food, games, and water-based fun for kids. The event will also host community speakers, featuring individuals who have turned their lives around after periods of incarceration, eager to share their transformative journeys.

The organization is also holding an art contest centered on that same theme. Students are encouraged to create designs showing what “put the guns down” means to them.

The winning design will be featured on T-shirts for the event, and the winner will receive a $25 gift card.

Artwork is due May 15.
