SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah Ghost Pirates’ debut in the Kelly Cup Playoffs ended in disappointment as they were eliminated by the Florida Everblades in the first round on Friday night at the Enmarket Arena.
In their inaugural postseason appearance, the Ghost Pirates succumbed to a 5-2 defeat against Florida in Game 4 of the Division Semifinals, marking a bittersweet conclusion to their playoff journey.
The game began with a tense scoreless first 18 minutes, but the Everblades broke the deadlock in the second period, netting two goals to establish a 2-0 advantage.
Florida extended their lead in the third period with two additional goals, pushing their dominance to 4-0. However, the Ghost Pirates made a spirited comeback attempt, scoring twice within a span of 39 seconds to narrow the gap.
Despite the rally, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Florida sealed their victory with an empty-net goal, quashing Savannah’s playoff aspirations.
“It was a great experience for us,” said Ghost Pirates head coach Jared Staal. “[Florida] has a ton of experience over there, and you can’t make that up.”
Ghost Pirates forward Logan Drevitch has been a member of the team all four seasons.
“Making the playoffs was the standard here,” said Drevitch. “We came up short tonight, but we can’t hang our heads.”
