JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A powerful body camera video released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday has captured widespread attention. It features an officer using five impactful words to offer hope to a man in distress: “You can get through it.”
The JSO took this opportunity to remind the public about available mental health support, highlighting the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which can be contacted by calling or texting 988.
The footage reveals a dramatic scene atop the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville, where a man, contemplating suicide, encountered officers who intervened with empathy and support, according to JSO.
Officer Antonio Richardson, featured in the video, extended his hand to the man and offered to pray with him, affirming, “Whatever you’re going through, you can get through it.”

Reflecting on the incident, the sheriff’s office commented, “In that moment, our officers transcended their roles as law enforcers. They were simply human beings showing deep care for another person.”
The man took Richardson’s hand and stepped off of the bridge and into the officer’s embrace.
“We are here for you,” JSO said. “We care about you. We do what we do every day because we care about you.”
