URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois tennis team seized another chance to compete at Atkins Tennis Center and capitalized on it by securing a spot in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Ranked 14th, Illinois faced off against the 24th-ranked Vanderbilt in the NCAA Second Round after overcoming Yale in the initial match. Illinois clinched the doubles point and swept to a decisive 4-0 victory, marking their first return to the Super Regionals in half a decade.

Head coach Brad Dancer expressed his delight, saying, “It’s been a few years since we hosted an event here, and we were unsure about the level of support we’d receive. Then Champaign shows up in full force, creating a wonderful, unforgettable moment for the team.”

Looking ahead, Illinois will head to the Columbus Super Regional to face the Buckeyes, who are hosting the event. Ohio State, ranked third, has already defeated Illinois twice this season. The match is slated for Friday, May 8, though the time has yet to be finalized.
