In a groundbreaking move, leaders in Chatham County, Georgia, are setting the stage for the county’s inaugural energy plan. This visionary initiative aims to revolutionize energy use across the region, focusing on solar power implementation, the integration of electric vehicles, and optimizing energy efficiency within county facilities.

On Monday, a significant gathering took place at the Bull Street Library, where local residents assembled to delve into the draft policies and strategies meticulously crafted over the past year. This meeting marked the last opportunity for in-person engagement on Chatham County’s pioneering energy plan.

The comprehensive proposal spans a diverse array of topics, encompassing residential energy programs, transportation innovations, and operational strategies within county functions. It also highlights collaborative efforts with external agencies dedicated to providing energy assistance.

County officials emphasize the plan’s holistic approach, which seeks to blend community feedback, existing resources, and local initiatives to effectively manage energy use throughout the county. This strategy is designed to ensure sustainable energy practices are embedded in the county’s future.

“The task is undeniably challenging, but it’s important to recognize the role local government can play in facilitating access to the multitude of resources available to the public, including residents and renters,” explained Jackie Jackson, Resilience Program Administrator. Jackson highlighted the importance of utilizing these resources to empower the community in energy efficiency and sustainability efforts.

Officials said the public survey remains open through May 15, and they encouraged residents to continue sharing feedback before the final plan is completed.
