(NEXSTAR) – While you may be aware that certain state quarters or star-marked banknotes can fetch more than their face value, have you considered whether you have any rare “radar” notes hiding in your wallet?
“Radar” notes are distinguished by their palindromic serial numbers, meaning they read identically forwards and backwards. Examples include sequences like 12344321 or 77700777, earning them their radar moniker.
These bills, much like those with unique serial numbers such as 00000001 or 12345678, can attract significant interest from collectors and numerology enthusiasts, potentially leading to lucrative offers.
“Radar notes are quite sought after and often carry a premium, although most people overlook them,” explains Doug Mudd, curator and director at the American Numismatics Association’s Edward C. Rochette Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
