AUGUSTA, Ga. () – In response to growing concerns from inmates, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Monday addressing complaints about the food provided at the facility.
The RCSO noted that on April 25, 2026, several inmates, along with their families, voiced dissatisfaction regarding the meals served.
The statement, dated April 27, includes the following excerpt:
“The Jail Administration promptly launched a thorough review in collaboration with the contracted food service provider to identify the root of the complaints. Meanwhile, our medical team has been vigilant in monitoring inmate health and offering treatment to those potentially impacted. Currently, there is no evidence pointing to a widespread issue or ongoing threat. This seems to be an isolated incident, with all affected individuals having immediate access to necessary medical attention.”
On Sunday, NewsChannel 6 received an anonymous email claiming that an inmate reported a number of inmates fell ill.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said updates will be provided as more information become available.
