LOS ANGELES — Singer D4vd has been apprehended under suspicion of murdering a 14-year-old girl, whose decomposed remains were discovered last year in what appeared to be an abandoned Tesla linked to him, found in the Hollywood Hills, according to police reports issued on Thursday.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced that David Burke, the 21-year-old alternative pop singer from Houston known professionally as D4vd, is currently being held without the option of bail. Authorities plan to present their case to the District Attorney’s Office for potential charges on Monday.
D4vd had been the focus of an investigation by a Los Angeles County grand jury concerning the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Although the investigation was kept confidential, its details—and D4vd’s involvement—came to light on February 25 when his family members contested subpoenas in a Texas court, which required them to testify.
Efforts to contact an attorney and a publicist who have previously represented D4vd for comments went unanswered. The singer’s representatives have also consistently declined to provide statements to The Associated Press regarding the ongoing case.
The remains of Celeste Rivas Hernandez were found inside the Tesla on September 8, the day following what would have been her 15th birthday. Originally reported missing in 2024 from Lake Elsinore, located about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles, Hernandez was 13 and in the seventh grade at the time of her disappearance. Court documents indicate she was 14 at the time of her death.
The 2023 Tesla Model Y was registered in the singer’s name at the Texas address of his subpoenaed family members, according to court filings from prosecutors. It had been towed from an upscale neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills where it had been sitting, seemingly abandoned.
