AIKEN, S.C. — Aiken is abuzz with anticipation as it prepares to host one of its premier community fitness events this year.

The AEC Touchstone Energy Run United is set to return this Saturday, attracting runners of all ages and abilities to downtown Aiken for a day filled with races and community festivities.

This event will offer participants a variety of races to choose from, including a half marathon, 10k, 5k, and a children’s fun run. All races will commence from the Newberry Street Festival area, transforming the heart of Aiken into a lively hub of athletic endeavor.

The half marathon and 10k races will kick off the event at 7:30 a.m., setting the pace for the morning. Shortly after, at 7:45 a.m., the 5k race will begin, providing another opportunity for participants to challenge themselves. The day will conclude with the kids’ one-mile fun run at 9:30 a.m., ensuring that even the youngest athletes can join in the excitement.

Event organizers have announced that the first 400 finishers in each race category will be awarded medals, while the first 800 registered participants will receive a Dri-Fit shirt, adding a special touch to their accomplishment.

Awards will be presented to overall winners, while all other finishers can pick up their awards at the table and take photos with the city manager.

Race day check-in opens at 7:00 a.m., with events wrapping up by mid-morning.

Drivers should expect closures and delays.

Newberry Street SW will see the biggest impacts, with rolling closures along the half marathon, 10k, and 5k routes from about 7:30 a.m. to late morning.

Impacted areas include parts of South Boundary Avenue, Two Notch Road, and Colleton Avenue.

Officials recommend avoiding Newberry Street and using alternate routes through midday.
