Sevier County Tragedy: Fatal Murder-Suicide Claims Lives of Woman and Infant

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WATE) — A tragic scene unfolded in a Sevier County apartment on Friday where three individuals were discovered dead.

Sevier County Sheriff Michael Hodges disclosed on Monday that investigators have determined a 33-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a 31-year-old woman and a 3-month-old baby before committing suicide. The investigation is still ongoing as authorities await the autopsy results.

“This incident was profoundly challenging for our deputies, investigators, and all first responders involved. Even though they are trained to handle the most severe cases, the death of an innocent child is particularly devastating, leaving a deep impact on everyone. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and others affected by this tragic event. We pledge to carry out this investigation with careful attention, ensuring everyone involved is treated with the utmost respect and compassion.”

Hodges said in a statement on Friday that this was an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public. SCSO also asked the public to respect the families’ privacy.
