AUGUSTA, Ga. () – On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a federal judge has sentenced two individuals to federal prison following their convictions for mail theft, bank fraud, and identity theft.
Joshua M. Holmes, a 21-year-old from Miami, received a 36-month prison term, along with five years of supervised release, and a $2,000 fine after admitting guilt to charges of Mail Theft, Bank Fraud, and Aggravated Identity Theft.
Meanwhile, Coleshia Carter, aged 22 and hailing from East Point, Georgia, was handed a 24-month prison sentence. She will also undergo one year of supervised release and pay a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to Aggravated Identity Theft.
“The defendants’ actions not only harmed businesses in and around Augusta but also compromised the integrity of our financial systems,” commented U.S. Attorney Margaret E. Heap. “This case underscores the message that crime is not profitable, and we are committed to ensuring justice and protecting our communities.”
