DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — In a move motivated by concerns over storm-inflicted damages and safety issues, the Danville County Market has decided to shutter its doors for good. In response, Vermilion Advantage is actively advocating for the establishment of a new grocery outlet.
Situated on North Vermilion Street close to the mall, the now-closed market leaves a gap that Amy Brown, CEO of Vermilion Advantage, is eager to fill. As part of the region’s economic development efforts, she is spearheading a proposal to bring a fresh grocery store to Danville.
This development follows discussions held on Friday with Niemann Foods, which owns the County Market brand. According to Brown, there’s evidence that locals prefer to shop for groceries within city limits, highlighting a robust demand that supports their initiative.
“Our grocery retail performance is notably strong, which suggests there is an attractive market opportunity,” Brown stated. She hopes this indicator might encourage County Market to reconsider their closure decision.
In the meantime, they suggest shoppers go to the County Market in nearby Tilton.
