WEBER CITY, Va. — The absence of a police force in Weber City has prompted the Town Council to explore various solutions to ensure the community’s safety. The situation arose earlier this year when the town dismissed its police chief and a sergeant due to an ongoing investigation, leaving Weber City without any local law enforcement officers.
In the interim, the town has relied on assistance from state police and the sheriff’s office to maintain order and provide necessary patrol services. This arrangement, however, is not seen as a long-term solution.
During a council meeting on Tuesday evening, members deliberated over the possibility of entering into a contract with county deputies to provide policing services. This option is being considered as a means to bolster law enforcement presence and maintain public safety in the town.
Mayor Justin Addington acknowledged the complexity of the situation, emphasizing the council’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Weber City residents. He reassured the community that despite current challenges, their protection remains a top priority.
Mayor Justin Addington said it is a tough situation but residents will be kept safe.
“Well, it’s it’s a bad situation. And I hated that it ended up this way,” Addington said. “But, you know, we just have to do what we have to do. I mean, we’ve got to look out for the people, make the right choices. You know, that’s why we’re putting these officers to, you know, work these things out and we will take care of it and everything will be fine.”
Addington said all options are on the table.
