BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A Bloomington man died four days after an accident in which a vehicle struck a utility pole.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Bloomington Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of Hinshaw Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. The Bloomington Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers secured the crash scene and started their investigation while paramedics provided medical care to the passenger. Due to the severity of the crash, the McLean Country Accident Reconstruction Team was requested.

The front seat passenger, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries.” Other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling northbound on Hinshaw Avenue when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The McLean County Coroner, Dr. Kathleen Yoder, announced that 22-year-old Travis Floyd of Bloomington was pronounced dead at Carle BroMenn Medical Center on Sept. 24 at 9:24 a.m., four days after the accident occurred. The preliminary autopsy opinion indicates that Floyd died of blunt head injuries due to the vehicle striking a fixed object. The injuries to Floyd were reportedly sustained as a front seat passenger.

Additionally, the circumstances behind this incident are still pending investigation by the Bloomington Police Department, McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and McLean County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bloomington Police Department at 309-820-8888.
