Shocking Reasons Behind the Cancelation of ‘Gen V’: The Boys Spin-Off That Never Took Flight

The curtain has fallen on “Gen V,” the initial spin-off from Prime Video’s popular series “The Boys.” The show will not return for a third season, with its cancellation attributed to dwindling streaming figures. The second season began with promise, drawing in 424 million minutes of viewership during its three-episode debut in mid-September 2025. This success secured a spot in Nielsen’s streaming top 10 originals. However, subsequent episodes released later in September and October struggled to maintain this momentum, only making a brief return to the top 10, which ultimately sealed the show’s fate.

This spin-off centered around superpowered students at Godolkin University, where they learned to harness their abilities while vying for a place in the school’s ranking system. The ultimate goal was to earn a coveted spot among the Seven, a renowned superteam under the control and sponsorship of the ever-powerful Vought International.

Key figures in the series included Marie Moreau (played by Jaz Sinclair), a young woman with the lethal ability to manipulate blood. Marie and her peers found themselves in conflict with university authorities, especially as the students became pawns in Homelander’s (Antony Starr) new world order. Rising as a leader, Marie spearheaded a resistance within the school to prevent an impending clash between humans and superheroes.

For those who followed “Gen V,” the series concluded on a suspenseful note. Marie confronted Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), who intended to use her for his own agenda. With assistance from Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas), Marie managed to eliminate Thomas. The finale saw the fugitive students being rescued by Annie January, also known as Starlight (Erin Moriarty), who offered them a role in the burgeoning international resistance.

Fans worried about unresolved storylines can find solace in knowing that these narratives will continue. The characters from “Gen V” are set to appear in the final season of “The Boys,” currently available on Prime Video. “While we regret not continuing the journey at Godolkin for another season, we are eager to integrate the ‘Gen V’ characters into ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and future VCU projects. Their stories will persist,” stated executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg in a joint declaration, as reported by Variety.

Season 2 of Gen V left the show in an awkward place

Unfortunately for fans of the cast of “Gen V,” the series left them with quite the cliffhanger. Marie finally came face-to-face with Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) himself. He’d hoped to control Marie and make her a puppet for his cause, but with the help of Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas), Marie kills Thomas instead. In the end, the now on-the-run collegiates are scooped up by Annie January (Erin Moriarty) — better known as Starlight — who tells them that they have a seat at the table in the growing international resistance.

Fans shouldn’t worry that that storyline will be left dangling forever. Apparently the team’s work with Starlight will factor in some way into the final season of “The Boys,” which is currently streaming on Prime Video as of this writing. “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again,” series executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg said in a joint statement (via Variety).

Indeed, “The Boys” has already referenced “Gen V” in Season 5: Annie mentions in Episode 1 that Marie is now busy running her own team of Starlighters. That strengthens the alliance between the two shows, proving that while “Gen V” may be gone, it won’t be forgotten by its mothership show anytime soon.
