In recent times, diving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has started to feel more like tackling a lengthy assignment than merely enjoying an engaging saga. The MCU’s spread across countless Disney+ series and standalone films during the Multiverse Saga era has made it a challenge for viewers to follow everything leading up to the much-anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday” hitting screens on December 18. While die-hard fans might strive to catch each piece of content, Disney+ has thoughtfully unveiled a “Countdown to ‘Avengers: Doomsday'” watchlist to simplify the journey; we unpack its contents in the video linked above.

The watchlist features predictable entries, such as “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which tantalizingly teased the MCU’s Doctor Doom with a mid-credits glimpse, along with “Thunderbolts*,” “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and both “Loki” seasons. These serve as vital guides through the intricate multiverse narratives set to merge in the new movie. Surprisingly, among the 15 selected movies and shows, some choices are unexpected, while a few expected titles are missing.

From the classic trio of original MCU sagas, only Captain America earns a solo film spot, with the first “Avengers” movie ostensibly providing a catch-all introduction to Thor and Iron Man. While Iron Man himself isn’t expected, Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom suggests potential tie-ins. Also catching attention is Marvel Studios’ decision to highlight two of the Fox “X-Men” films, paving the way for those well-loved characters to make a celebrated comeback.

Doctor Strange and the X-Men feature heavily in the Doomsday watchlist

Included on Disney+’s “Doomsday” watchlist are the first two Fox-produced X-Men movies. However, it notably omits any from the prequel or reboot timelines like “X-Men: First Class” or “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

Additionally, both “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Spider-Man: No way Home” are featured, despite conflicting reports as to whether Peter Parker (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), or Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) will even appear in the film. Sure, both movies have major multiverse storylines, but it’s a curious choice when other options like the Thor films have been omitted.

There are surely surprises in store. Predictions for “Avengers: Doomsday” are already running rampant, and with 2027’s “Secret Wars” acting as a “part two” of sorts, there could be a pretty dramatic ending in place for this year’s film. Check out the video above for our full breakdown of the “Doomsday” watchlist on Disney+.
