Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall’s Daughter Makes Rare Public Appearance

Leslie Bogart was raised in the heart of Hollywood’s Golden Age, with legendary stars Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart as her parents.

Yet although she was born into a world of movie premieres, celebrity parties and constant attention, the couple’s only daughter ultimately chose a private life well away from the entertainment industry.

The rarely photographed daughter of The Big Sleep stars has now been seen in public for the first time in years. At 74, Leslie bears a striking resemblance to her late mother, Lauren Bacall, the Daily Mail can reveal.

The 74-year-old, who has for years enjoyed a relatively normal life away from the spotlight, stepped out earlier this week in Los Angeles while heading to an appointment, exclusive photos show.

Spotted enjoying the California sunshine, the silver-haired Leslie kept a low profile during her outing. She has been married for around 30 years to yoga instructor Erich Schiffmann.

The quiet scene offered a sharp contrast to Leslie’s childhood, when she traveled the world with her parents, affectionately known as “Bogie and Bacall,” attending film sets, photo sessions and other Hollywood engagements.

Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, one of the most famous Hollywood couples of all time, had two children: Stephen and Leslie Bogart. They are pictured together in a 1954 family portrait.

Leslie was named for actor Leslie Howard, a close friend of her father, and was the youngest of the two children born to the Dark Passage stars.

As children, she and her older brother, Stephen Bogart, were frequently photographed by paparazzi as they followed their famous parents through Hollywood life.

Bacall and Bogart first met while filming the 1944 movie To Have and Have Not. Their on-set romance soon developed into one of classic Hollywood’s most famous love stories.

Despite a 25-year age difference, Bogie and Bacall appeared together on screen, hosted lavish all-night gatherings and socialized with stars including Frank Sinatra. Their circle became known as the Holmby Hills Rat Pack.

Unsurprisingly, public fascination extended beyond the celebrated couple to their young family.

The relentless paparazzi were not the only people given access to the family’s private world. In 1954, the couple also invited CBS cameras into their home for a televised tour.

The brief glimpse into Leslie's every day life is a far cry from her childhood days when she would traipse across the globe with her famous parents.

After journalist Edward R. Murrow completed the tour of their home, Bacall brought Stephen and Leslie into view of the cameras.

Interest in the Bogart children grew even more intense after their father died from cancer in 1957. Leslie was five years old at the time, while her brother was eight.

Leslie has rarely spoken publicly about her childhood or her famous parents, while Stephen has occasionally reflected on the family in interviews over the years.

‘It was his death, rather than his life, that was the problem for me,’ Stephen told the New York Times in 1995 of his father, adding that the constant presence of cameras trailing them was overwhelming.

‘When he died, it brought the attention on us,’ he added. ‘I hated it. I didn’t want my picture taken anymore.’

Still, in the years after their father’s passing, Leslie routinely accompanied her mom to various sets and was front and center at red carpet events as a baby-faced teen.

But as an adult, Leslie’s appearances grew less frequent.

Photos show her attending the Academy Awards back in 1997 and a ceremony that same year where a commemorative postage stamp honoring her late father was unveiled.

One of Leslie’s last known public appearances alongside her mom and brother was at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governors Awards Gala back in 2009.

Sightings have been slim and dried up entirely following her mother’s death in 2014.

Leslie, who tied the knot with her yogi husband back in 1990, has no children. Her brother, meanwhile, has been married three times and has three kids: a son from his first marriage and a daughter and son from his second.

They have a half-brother, actor Sam Robards, from their mother’s second marriage to All the President’s Men actor Jason Robards. The pair wed in 1961 but divorced eight years later.

When Bacall died in 2014, most of her $26.6 million estate was split between her three children.

In her will, Bacall requested specifically that her kids ‘respect my wish to keep private certain personal letters, writings, diaries and other papers or memorabilia.’
