Stephen A. Smith appears to be reevaluating his earlier stance that COVID-19 vaccinations were his lifeline.
Back in 2022, Smith had proclaimed that the vaccine had “saved his life,” a sentiment that positioned him as a vocal proponent. But come last Wednesday evening, the ESPN star’s narrative took a surprising twist.
Smith recounted his experience watching Dr. Fauci refuse to answer questions 111 times in front of Congress, while his personal journal seemed at odds with public statements. Following Fauci’s lead, Smith diligently received his initial COVID vaccinations, opted for a booster, and even adhered to mask protocols.
Nevertheless, Smith disclosed that he contracted COVID-19, even though assurances from health experts suggested otherwise. The experience was harrowing, as he confessed, “Damn it, it almost killed me!”
In light of these revelations, Smith finds himself scrutinizing his previous trust in Fauci more critically.
SMITH: “Do I think that he [Fauci] should be embarrassed for the self-adulation that he engaged in? You’re damn right I do! Because some of the things that he was telling us to do were inconsistent with science, but he was telling us it was science that led to him making the decisions that he made!”
“Masking, six-foot distancing, the closing of businesses, forcing businesses to push those mandates upon people like me and others — because I took the vaccine, and I took a booster, and I wore a mask.”
“We were told, ‘Hey, you ain’t gonna get Covid if you do that.’ And I GOT COVID! And damn it, it almost killed me!”
“Going into 2022, I’m in the hospital 90 minutes before the ball is about to drop, and the doctor says, ‘We’ve been at this for three plus weeks. You got double pneumonia. You look really bad. If this antibiotic and this steroid do not work, Mr. Smith, I’m sorry, we’re gonna have to call your family. Looks that bad…’”
“And through the grace of God, three hours later, I felt better after they gave me that steroid and that antibiotic. But those were the longest three hours of my life because I thought it was over.”
“And I remember I had done exactly what Dr. Anthony Fauci was imploring us all to do.”
Smith had the look of a man who just figured out he’d been lied to all along.
