Aryna Sabalenka, reigning as the foremost female tennis player globally with four major titles under her belt, has thrown her support behind the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) recent initiative mandating genetic testing for its competitors.
The Belarusian tennis sensation shared her views during a press conference at the Canadian Open, voicing her commitment to ensuring a level playing field in women’s tennis.
“Biologically, men possess greater strength compared to women, which makes it fundamentally unfair for women to compete against biological men,” Sabalenka remarked to a room full of media representatives. She further emphasized her willingness to participate in the genetic testing herself, labeling this initiative as a crucial measure to safeguard the sport’s integrity.
“If they choose to test all of us, I’m more than ready to comply. It’s quite fair, and we should maintain this standard,” she stated firmly.
Sabalenka’s position echoes that of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who has also championed the protection of women’s sporting events from the inclusion of biological males.
