Inter will go to £30m for Jones pursuit
Inter Milan has indicated their readiness to shell out £30 million for Liverpool’s midfielder Curtis Jones.
At 25, Jones has been feeling the strain of limited playtime, seeking more consistent appearances on the field. With just a year left on his contract, Liverpool remains unconcerned about his current status.
Earlier this year, the Italian giants expressed interest, suggesting a loan coupled with a future purchase option, which Liverpool ultimately declined.
Inter Milan are continuing to chase Curtis Jones but are yet to meet Liverpool’s valuation
Piero Ausilio, Inter’s sporting director, confirmed he was still on their radar earlier this summer, saying: ‘Curtis Jones – we are paying attention to him. We didn’t hide. We understand what the developments will be.’
Teammate Federico Chiesa, another who could depart, also told Italian media that Jones asked him what it is like to live in Italy.
The midfielder has been with Liverpool since he was nine and signed his first professional contract with them in 2018.
Inter yesterday confirmed the signing of England defender John Stones on a free transfer.
Liverpool have received enquiries for some of their fringe players who have impressed on tour in USA with Luke Chambers, Lewis Koumas, Calum Scanlon and Ifeanyi Ndukwe all attracting interest.
Leeds miss out on Brandt
Leeds United target Julian Brandt has signed for Ajax on a three-year contract.
Leeds had been chasing the 30-year-old free agent following his contract expiry at Borussia Dortmund and his father and agent, Jurgen, had previously been at Leeds’ Thorp Arch training ground to discuss a move.

Villa hope Allan holds key
Aston Villa have asked about Palmeiras striker Allan. The 22-year-old joined the club in 2019 from his hometown club Figueirense.
Villa have already brought in Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea this summer.

Blades say no to Seriki deal
Sheffield United have rejected an offer from Sassuolo for defender Femi Seriki. The Serie A club offered an initial loan with an option to buy the 24-year-old full-back for £5m.
Newcastle reach agreement on goalkeeper Hornicek
Newcastle have an agreement in principle with Sporting Braga for goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
As Daily Mail Sport exclusively revealed last weekend, Newcastle turned to the 24-year-old Czech international after opting against moves for James Trafford and Carl Rushworth.
They also considered Parma’s Zion Suzuki but have agreed to activate Hornicek’s £25.7m release clause and are now discussing payment structure with the Portuguese club.
Hornicek has been given permission to travel for a medical as the two clubs tie up details and he will become Newcastle’ fifth signing of the summer, though two are goalkeepers.
Trafford has opted to join Leeds from Manchester City and Rushworth is joining Coventry City from Brighton. Suzuki is in talks to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Daily Mail Sport revealed on Sunday that Newcastle had turned to Hornicek – and the deal is now set to be completed
Como back in for Chalobah
Como have returned to the negotiating table for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
The Italians are playing a friendly in Portugal on Friday against Famalicao but are continuing to discuss another improved offer for the England centre back.
Their last bid of £25m plus add-ons still fell short of Chelsea’s valuation but they are looking to include further achievable add ons to see if that will suffice.
Talks are expected to continue tomorrow for the 27-year-old.

Moyes makes call as Everton pursue Celtic’s Johnston
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed Everton have made contact over their interest in right-back Alistair Johnston.
O’Neill said Everton boss David Moyes had called him to warn him the approach was coming.
‘Everton have been in contact. I’m not sure whether there has been a bid in for that one.
‘In fairness, David [Moyes] did call me last weekend to tell me that there would be contact.
‘But I don’t know how far that has progressed, or if it has at all.’
Everton say Canada international Johnston, 27, is one of a number of options they are considering.
United keeping tabs on Hall
Manchester United remain appreciative of Newcastle left back Lewis Hall but acknowledge it would be a difficult transfer to pull off.
The club are still assessing market movements, checking who is available at the right price, before deciding on their next priority position. Another midfielder has been at the forefront of their thinking while another forward still hinges on Marcus Rashford departing. Despite interest from other clubs, as it stands, he remains likely to start the season at United.
Cover at left back is required as United are going into the new season with Luke Shaw, who has one year left on contract, as their only senior option in that position. Harry Amass can cover but has been told he would be better seeking first team opportunities elsewhere.
Manchester United are keen on Newcastle left back Lewis Hall
Hall, 21, has three years left on his current contract, and would require a substantial fee with Newcastle looking to stabilise once Matthias Jaissle is in place.
Though midfielder Bruno Guimaraes may yet join Arsenal, if they make a formal offer over £80m, the club want to add players to ensure they are competitive.
Hamer heading back to Coventry
Coventry are closing on a deal to bring back midfielder Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United. The 29-year-old Brazilian has one year left on his deal.
He spent three years at Coventry after joining from PEC Zwolle, before moving to Sheffield United in August 2023.
Cherries swoop for Silva
Bournemouth have agreed their £25m deal with Benfica to sign defender Antonio Silva.
The 22-year-old centre back captained and played 90 minutes for Benfica in their emphatic 5-0 Europa League qualifying win against St Gallen last night.
The transfer is worth £21.4million plus £4.3m in add-ons.
The Portugal international is due to travel over this weekend to have a medical and complete his move.

The Wales international, who has agreed a three year deal, can play as a centre-forward, attacking midfielder or right winger.

Hammers trying to nail down Engels
West Ham are moving ahead on talks for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.
The 22-year-old was the subject of bids up to £25million from Nottingham Forest in January which Celtic rejected.
West Ham have a long-held interest in the Belgium international and, after sounding out figures over a couple of conversations with the Scottish champions, are pressing to see if agreement can be reached on bringing Engels to London and making him the midfield replacement for Mateus Fernandes.
Forest, Sunderland and Fulham had also shown interest.
