The tragic cause of Dylan Carter’s death has been officially determined.
Dylan Carter, a contestant from the 24th season of “The Voice,” passed away due to blunt force trauma sustained during a car accident in Colleton County, South Carolina, as reported by TMZ on Monday.
The Colleton County coroner has declared the incident an accident, emphasizing that Carter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
According to law enforcement sources, Carter was alone in a 2026 Tesla sedan when the accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road, collided with a pole and a fence, and subsequently rolled over.
Carter succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital, marking a tragic end to his promising journey.
He was 24 years old.
Carter memorably wowed “The Voice” judges with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s 2009 hit “I Look to You” — which he dedicated to his late mother — when he auditioned on the reality singing competition at just 20 years old.
The performance resulted in all four judges turning their chairs around to compete to coach him. The judges at the time included Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Niall Horan.
He ultimately chose McEntire as his coach, but was eliminated during the Battle Rounds of the competition.
Carter’s family confirmed the news of his death Sunday, sharing that they were “heartbroken” in a statement shared on Facebook.
“As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events,” the statement read in part. “His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
“To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period,” the statement continued. “The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies.”
The family concluded, “He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”
