TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As we continue into the third week of the Atlantic hurricane season, the tropics continue their quiet trend.

Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center did not predict any tropical development over the next seven days.

This means that for now, we can enjoy a calm summer period in Florida, the South, and the Caribbean.

“We are enjoying a very quiet pattern in the tropics right now, no forecast models, even the GFS, are forecasting any activity within the next two weeks,” Max Defender 8 meteorologist Rebecca Barry said. “This looks like it will continue for a few weeks, and we will savor each and every quiet day.”

However, this contrasts with the Pacific, which has already seen some tropical development since its season began in mid-May.

Tropical Storm Erick formed on Tuesday, several hundred miles southeast of Punta Maldonado, Mexico.

The NHC forecasted that Erick will reach hurricane strength by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
