The grandson of infamous Mafia leader John Gotti is now facing assault charges after an alleged attack on his girlfriend. This incident occurred just days before he was scheduled to begin his prison sentence for fraudulently acquiring COVID-19 relief funds.
Carmine Gotti Agnello, aged 39, reportedly lashed out at his girlfriend in a fit of jealousy around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The altercation took place in his residence in Long Island, New York, after he accused her of infidelity, according to a report by the New York Post. The woman managed to escape from the house.

Agnello, a descendant of the late Gambino crime family head John Gotti, was arrested following allegations of assaulting his girlfriend shortly before his impending imprisonment for COVID-19 fraud.
According to the complaint referenced by the newspaper, Agnello pursued his girlfriend outside, where he allegedly “slapped her on the left cheek, punched her with a closed fist on the left side of her face, and placed both hands around her neck.” He is further accused of kicking her and destroying her $2,000 cellphone by smashing it onto the ground.
Agnello now faces charges including third-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, and criminal obstruction of breathing. During a court hearing in Nassau County on Thursday, he was released without the requirement of posting bail.

Agnello was supposed to report to prison on June 12 to begin a 15-month sentence for stealing $1.1 million in COVID relief funds in 2024. He used the money to invest in cryptocurrency, prosecutors said.
Despite the short sentence, Agnello tried to delay reporting to prison, claiming he wanted to donate a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti, the daughter of John Gotti.
John Gotti led New York’s Gambino crime family before being sentenced to life in prison in 1992 for racketeering, murder, and other crimes. He served his time at the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois, until he died of throat cancer in 2002.
