EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) — This summer, as families gravitate towards pools and lakefronts to escape the heat, a new campaign is encouraging adults to take charge when it comes to supervising children around water. The initiative, backed by state officials and water safety advocates, is part of the Water Watcher campaign.
In Evanston, Goldfish Swim School has introduced Water Watcher Tags. These tags assign the crucial role of vigilant supervision to an adult, ensuring the safety of children near water.

“Drowning is a pervasive issue, especially as it stands as the leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 4,” explained Sara Mesnard, director of operations for RJ Group/Goldfish Swim Schools.
Mesnard emphasized that appointing a dedicated adult supervisor provides an essential safeguard for children playing in the water.
