Authorities reported that police were called to Rigel Road late Monday night, following alerts from residents about a man forcefully entering their homes while wielding a firearm.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fatal incident unfolded as a man lost his life after allegedly aiming a gun at law enforcement officers who were responding to his aggressive behavior on Jacksonville’s Southside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated that officers arrived at the scene on Rigel Road in the Holiday Hill neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. They were investigating reports of a disturbance involving an armed individual causing property damage.

The suspect had allegedly broken into four different homes in the area, brandishing a handgun and confronting several occupants, according to the investigators.

Upon their arrival, as officers were gathering information from the affected residents, the man reportedly advanced towards them and pointed his weapon in their direction.

Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but investigators said he did not, and that’s when four officers opened fire, killing him. No officers were injured.

Investigators are withholding the man’s identity, but said he was a convicted felon in both Florida and Texas.

The State Attorney’s Office is now investigating the scene.

Jessica Sauls, who lives nearby, said she heard multiple gunshots and witnessed the aftermath unfold just outside her home.

“My house was surrounded by cops and all their guns pointing right at my neighbor’s house, and then the next thing I know I hear some yelling,” Sauls said.

She described the experience as deeply unsettling.

“I am shaking to my core,” she says. “I lived here about a year and a half, and nothing’s really happening. It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood until the last few months when a lot of crime started happening,” Sauls said.

Sauls said seeing the scene firsthand, including the heavy police presence and the aftermath, has left her feeling both fearful and frustrated about safety in the area.
