Although the Met Gala is heralded as the pinnacle of fashion events, this year’s gathering left much to be desired as many stars failed to impress with their attire.
This year’s dress code, “Fashion is Art,” was intended to guide attendees within the broader theme of “Costume Art.” However, several celebrities offered peculiar interpretations of this directive.
While a number of attendees opted for eccentric and extravagant outfits, others, like Sarah Paulson, used their fashion choices as a platform for social commentary.
Even Chloe Malle, the newly appointed editor of Vogue, caused a stir with her choice of attire.
From Kylie Jenner’s nearly transparent ensemble to Katy Perry’s extraterrestrial-inspired look, the Daily Mail has highlighted the most notable fashion missteps from the 2026 Met Gala.
Not her best Met look! Kylie Jenner stepped out in an intricate Schiaparelli gown, with a nude, curve-hugging corset top and a half-tied, cream-colored, bejeweled satin skirt. The back of the dress featured an undone look, and she paired it with a dramatic hairstyle, leaving just one strand around her eyes, chunky pearl earrings and a matching necklaceÂ
Here comes the AI bride? Katy Perry completely covered her face in a robot-esque silver mask, pairing it with a strapless, white silky gown with an exaggerated square neckline. She finished off the look with a pair of white satin opera glovesÂ
Looking like a quill pen! Musician Sam Smith wore a black bedazzled outfit that featured an oversized, dramatic cape top lined with fur and a mermaid-style, bottom-hugging hem. They paired the look with a large matching headpiece that included two extremely tall black feathers
Millionaire hypocrisy! Sarah Paulson wore a dramatic, gray tulle dress with a dramatic bow at the neckline and added a dollar bill around her eyes, apparently suggesting that we are blinded by money. She completed the look with a pair of white opera gloves
Eyes wide shut? Actress Rachel Zegler sported a white corset-style gown with a mermaid hemline, as she tied a sheer piece of fabric around her eyes. She wore her hair back to show off the intricate neckline of the dress and draped sleeves
Red hot wrong! Lena Dunham arrived in a custom, red sequined and feathered Valentino gown inspired by Artemisia Gentileschi’s Judith Slaying Holofernes painting, according to Vogue. She paired the look with the brand’s signature rockstud heels in bright red and wore minimal jewelryÂ
Poor color choice! Vogue’s new head of editorial content, Chloe Malle, wore a Creamsicle-orange chiffon dress custom-made for her by New York designer Colleen Allen that fell short of the theme. She paired the dress with a bubble necklace by Fred Leighton jewelry, and wore her hair in Old-Hollywood style curlsÂ
Tassels gone wrong! Emma Chamberlain wore a very dramatic, over-the-top Mugler gown that resembled paint and brushstrokes on the body and into the ruffled hem. The sleeves featured long tassels and shredded detailing that continued into the train of her gown. She completed the look with a super dark smoky eye and a dark nude lipÂ
Playing it safe! Met Gala co-chair Venus Williams wore a curve-hugging, black Swarovski crystal gown with a dramatic silver necklace draped over the top. She wore her hair in a high bun decorated with crystals to match the dress, as well as a few earrings
Looks like he traveled back in time! Ben Platt wore a suit reminiscent of a children’s outfit, stepping out in a blue-and-green ombre suit adorned with clouds, trees, and a woman holding an umbrella. He paired the look with chunky, white satin loafers, as his pants appeared to be a bit too shortÂ
Way too much going on! ABC journalist Deborah Roberts, who is married to Al Roker, arrived in a busy, multicolored, polka-dot gown with a dramatic bubble skirt. The dress featured a thick belt at the waist and a corset-style top, which she completed with a pair of large dangling earrings
Into the future! Janelle Monae wore a dress that appeared to be decorated with computer wires and moss, with large cut-outs at the waist. The dress also featured large butterflies, including one that she placed in her hair
Yawn! Model Grace Ann Nader, who is the sister of Sports Illustrated star Brooks Nader, looked like she was going to any other Hollywood party instead of the Met Gala on Monday night. She opted for a curve-hugging black gown with a corset-style top adorned with mesh cut-outs. She added a sparkling necklace and wore her hair in long, cascading wavesÂ
Boring! Singer Charli XCX wore a strapless, curve-hugging black gown by Saint Laurent with an intricate floral detailing at the top. She wore her hair in a high ponytail and minimal jewelryÂ
Going to the Emmys or the Met Gala? Sutton Foster played it safe as she donned a gold lamé gown with a high slit in the thigh and a one-shoulder detailing. She completed her nearly-casual look with a gold clutch and strappy gold heels, wearing her hair in a simple side partÂ
Let’s amp up the excitement! Ballerina Misty Copeland wore a brown two-piece set featuring a cropped leather bra top and a big, pleated tulle skirt. She kept things extremely simple by styling her hair in a bun and wearing matching brown shoes, as well as a diamond tennis necklace
Lightbulb or dress? Karlie Kloss wore a Christian Dior dress that resembled a light fixture, with a dramatic, oversized skirt tied together at the bottom in a bow. She paired the look with lilac orchids in her hair and silk green heels
