In a tragic incident at a Walmart parking lot in Omaha, Nebraska, local police officers fatally shot a woman who had reportedly injured a 3-year-old boy with a knife. The Omaha Police Department confirmed the shooting occurred on Tuesday, as reported by Fox News Digital.
According to a statement released on X by the OPD, officers responded to the scene where they found a woman who had attacked the young boy with a large knife. The officers discharged their weapons, resulting in the woman’s death at the scene. The injured child was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police emphasized that this was an isolated event and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to their safety.
Local reports indicate that police were called to the Walmart, situated on 72nd Street between Pacific and Mercy Road, around 9:20 a.m.

The woman had taken the child from his caretaker and made him walk outside, OPD Deputy Chief Scott Gray reportedly told reporters at the scene, according to WOWT.
When police began to give the woman commands, she started “swiping” at the child, giving the child lacerations to the hands and face, Gray said
The child was taken to a local hospital for the injuries but is expected to survive.

A spokesperson for Walmart condemned the incident in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Violence like this is unacceptable. We’re working with police and supporting them in their investigation,” the statement read.
