Police Search for Suspect After Man Shot in Chest on Jacksonville’s Eastside

A shooting on Jacksonville’s Eastside has left one man injured, prompting police to investigate the event as an isolated incident without any continuing public threat.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his early 20s was shot in the chest on Tuesday evening in the Eastside neighborhood of Jacksonville. Fortunately, his injuries are not deemed life-threatening, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. following reports of gunfire near the 800 block of Bert Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency medical services from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident unfolded as the victim was walking close to the intersection of Arlington Road North and Blackard Road. He became embroiled in an argument with an individual inside a car. During this altercation, the person in the vehicle brandished a gun and fired multiple rounds, striking the victim once.

After the shooting, the suspect drove away, heading north on Hollister Road. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark green sedan and the suspect as a young black male.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the community. Authorities are working to determine what led to the argument and if the relationship between the individuals involved.
