Report: Doug Emhoff Opposes Wife Kamala Harris’ Potential 2028 Presidential Run

Kamala Harris is reportedly facing resistance as she weighs another presidential campaign in 2028—including from her husband, Doug Emhoff, who would prefer that she not seek the White House again.

Emhoff has privately told people that he would rather see Harris stay out of the 2028 race, according to a Friday report by the Wall Street Journal.

Still, people close to the former second gentleman expect him to support Harris if she ultimately decides to run, the newspaper reported.

Harris’ reservations extend well beyond her own household.

Several donors who remain uncertain about her political plans have told Harris directly that a 2028 White House bid would be “a long shot.”

The former vice president is attempting to move forward after a disappointing 2024 election defeat to President Trump.

Harris lost the popular vote, Electoral College and every battleground state to Trump, despite raising an eye-catching $1.5 billion for her unsuccessful campaign.

Even so, Harris continues to lead the hypothetical Democratic field by double digits in nearly every recent 2028 poll.

Harris says she has not decided whether to make a third run for president, although her recent activities suggest she may be preparing for another campaign.

With the midterm elections approaching, Harris has appeared at Democratic fundraisers, including private gatherings for Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate David Crowley and Nevada gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Last week, she joined a Democratic National Committee call with more than 2,000 volunteers and encouraged them to support get-out-the-vote efforts in 12 states.

“I have not decided if I’m going to run again,” Harris said at a NAACP event in Michigan last month. “I do sincerely believe ’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26.”

Some longtime Harris allies who have worked closely with her remain “skeptical” that she will seek the presidency again.

Earlier this year, Harris and Emhoff purchased an $8 million mansion in Malibu.

Emhoff has also joined Los Angeles law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as a partner.

Harris’ office and Emhoff did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Post.
