In the early hours of Thursday, a train collision in Denmark resulted in five individuals sustaining critical injuries. Authorities have labeled the incident a significant crisis.
The accident took place around 6:30 a.m. near Hillerød, which is located approximately 40 kilometers (or 25 miles) north of Copenhagen. The Greater Copenhagen Fire Department reported that, aside from the critical injuries, around a dozen other passengers suffered from minor injuries.
The two trains involved in the collision had a total of 38 passengers on board, according to a representative from the North Zealand police.

Initially, officials reported four critically injured individuals, but this number was updated several hours following the incident. It remains uncertain if the train drivers were among those injured.

Investigators are looking into what caused the collision, which occurred near a level crossing. Photos from the scene show the front ends of the trains smashed, though both remained upright on the tracks.
The mayor of the nearby town of Gribskov, Trine Egetved, in a post on Facebook, said some of the injured were flown to the hospital.

She said the crash occurred on a local rail line that’s used by many Gribskov residents, employees and schoolchildren.
