US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that “massive” oil, gas and mineral exploration is poised to begin in Greenland.
Trump offered no specifics about the plans, but said experts believe Greenland has “easily available” oil reserves that exceed those found in almost any other place in the world.
The comments came after the United States, Denmark and Greenland signed an agreement last month intended to ease tensions sparked by Trump’s repeated threats to take control of the strategically located, mineral-rich island.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump also said any future attack on the United States would have to pass through Greenland, where US defenses would routinely intercept drones, missiles and other weapons, including technologies not yet conceived.
The agreement expands the US military’s role in Greenland, clearing the way for two new military bases and Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system. At the same time, it reaffirms Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination.
