US and Nigeria Launch Aerial Strike on ISIS Fighters Following Senior Leader’s Demise

In a continued effort to dismantle ISIS operations in Nigeria, U.S. and Nigerian forces executed another strategic strike, as reported by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). This recent action follows closely on the heels of a successful mission that resulted in the elimination of a senior ISIS figure.

AFRICOM confirmed the latest coordinated assault on ISIS militants took place on Monday, with the full cooperation of the Nigerian government. Although thorough evaluations are still underway, AFRICOM assured that no personnel from either the U.S. or Nigeria were injured during the mission.

“These operations significantly impair the terrorist group’s ability to orchestrate attacks that jeopardize the safety and security of the United States and its allies,” stated AFRICOM.

This series of strikes comes shortly after President Donald Trump disclosed on Friday that a collaborative effort by U.S. and Nigerian forces led to the death of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was identified as the global second-in-command of ISIS.

“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social at the time. “He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans.”

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed Saturday that U.S. forces, in coordination with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, killed al-Minuki and other ISIS leaders.

“So, for months, we hunted this top ISIS leader in Nigeria who was killing Christians, and we killed him — and his entire posse,” Hegseth wrote.

The announcement also comes after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out multiple strikes against more than 30 ISIS targets in Syria in February as part of a joint military effort to “sustain relentless military pressure on remnants from the terrorist network.”
