A substitute teacher from North Carolina, Katelyn Dawn Schronce, has accepted a plea deal after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old student. Her emotional mugshot, taken at the time of her arrest, captured widespread attention.
The 33-year-old was taken into custody on April 17, 2025, initially facing serious charges of statutory rape, which carried a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison. However, a plea agreement was reached, altering the course of her legal battle.
On Thursday, Schronce pleaded guilty to charges of indecent liberties with a child. Consequently, she received a sentence of between 20 and 33 months of incarceration. This resolution reflects a significant reduction from the initial possible penalties she faced.

Additionally, as a part of the court’s ruling, Schronce is prohibited from having any contact with the victim, a measure aimed at protecting the young individual involved in this case.
As part of her sentence, she is also banned from contacting the 15-year-old child who was her victim.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Schronce’s attorney, Glen Thomas, for comment.

Schronce, 33, who began working as a substitute teacher for Catawba County Schools in October 2024, was fired following the arrest, according to a statement from the school district.
“Catawba County Schools was recently made aware of the arrest of substitute employee Katelyn Schronce for serious criminal charges,” the district said. “There is no indication at this time that the charges are connected to her employment in our district.”
